Special handling procedures for oil-based mud

When staff in the use of oil based mud, they should have more attention to how to handle it because the mud can affect both personal health and the environment.

 

 

Some special procedures that you should consider when handling the oil-based mud.

 

PPE: gloves in hand, respirators, aprons, safety goggles must be worn at all times while working with oil-based mud.

 

Spill concern: ensuring that the platform must have 100% integrity to prevent spills. All rows of mud or oil lines must be inspected frequently.

While working on the drill floor, a vacuum must be used to minimize direct manipulation OBM.

Rubber wiper should be used during the maneuver out of the hole.

All lines and containment must be covered in mud to prevent rain water or accidentally in the system.

Always ensure that online connections, seals, valves or related materials in OBM should be made according to the preventive maintenance requirement. Any ignorance could lead to major incidents.
