Troubleshooting bad mud mixture of oil based mud

When the mud is not well mixed, you can see that the barite in the mud can easily adjust itself and its electrical stability is very low. In addition, when you look at the mud, it will not look homogenous (grainy dull). Without a good mixture, mud rheology is very thin so you do not have enough PV , YP .

There are several reasons behind this problem as follows:

• The temperature is cold enough.

• Not enough mixing time to shear the mud. Please remember that the oil based mud requires a shear time.

• contaminants could be accidentally added to the system.

• quality of barite poor.

How to solve this problem of mud

• You need to heat the system if necessary.

• You must ensure you shear the mud is not enough. You can see changes in the rheology if you shear the mud for the period of time.

• You may need to add the amount of barite and smaller wetting agent.
