Synthetic oil as base fluid oil-based mud

Previous topics on the base fluid ( diesel oil and mineral oil ), you know they are generated by the distillation of crude oil. Both of them still have a very long time to biodegrade and Leave some environmental issues . For this reason, synthetic oil, which is generated by purifying chemicals are mainly used in many parts of the world. oil-based mud that has the synthetic base fluid carries the same performance as mineral oil or a diesel system.

What are the advantages of using the synthesis system?

Biodegradability : The synthesis was less toxic and more biodegradable than the system of petroleum oil. In addition, it will biodegrade in aerobic and anaerobic conditions and ply less danger to people.

The rule and regulations: In some countries, they allow the unloading of the cuttings with a certain amount of oil on the cut because it is less harmful to the environment.

What are the disadvantages of using the synthesis system?

Price synthesis is higher than mineral oil and diesel. Sometimes, you can see almost double your bill if you use this mud system. However, you need to look from several angles, not only costs only wise.

Currently, there are several types of synthetic oil on the market. Each has its own chemical composition and it may be appropriate for certain drilling applications. I have some, but it would be better if you contact your company to give you mud chemical properties.

The following chemicals normally used as the base fluid are esters, linear paraffin, linear alpha olephins, and internal olefins.
